UP Open University Visits Puerto Princesa City


UPOU informs Palaweños about benefits of distance education.

The University of the Philippines was in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on 21-23 November 2012.

To promote UPOU’s social work programs, the UP Open University held a one-day exhibit at the Biennial Conference of the Philippine Association of Social Workers Inc (PASWI) at the Legend Palawan Hotel.

Distance Education Orientation Seminars were also conducted at the Western Philippines University (WPU) and the Palawan State University (PSU).

The UPOU team was composed of Ms. Anna Cañas-Llamas and Ms. Eleanor Manipol from the Information Office, Ms. MaripresSarinas, University Research Associate of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS ), and Assoc. Prof. FinaFlorTaylan, Program Chair for the Diploma and Master of Social Work. Asst Prof. Taylan and Ms. Sarinas were participants at the PASWI conference.

The team met with WPU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Julie Hope TimoteaEvina and Dr. MarcelinoJojoTabago, Dean of Graduate School, both of whomexpressed their interest in the Master of Social Work program.

Social work faculty members were invited to join the DE Orientation. Asst. Professor Taylanpresentedthe MSW and DSW programs and answered questions fromthe participants.

The Distance Education Orientation at the Palawan State University (PSU) attractedmostly graduating high school students, secondary school teachers and college professors.

The UPOU team paid courtesy visit to Dr. Fe V. Ricon, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Officer in Charge.
