Orientation on UPOU Programs in Hong Kong

UPOU informs Filipinos in Hong Kong about distance learning opportunities.


The UP Open University conducted the orientation seminar “Learning at UPOU through Distance Education” at the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong on 25 and 26 November 2012.

Co-organized by the Philippine Consulate General and the UP Alumni Association (UPAA) - Hong Kong Chapter, the orientation seminar aimed to introduce the participants to the features of open and distance e-learning and the UPOU’s course and program offerings.

In her message for the participants, UPOU Chancellor Grace Alfonso highlighted how UPOU delivers its programs in a flexible manner to meet the needs of busy professionals.  She also said that most of UPOU’s students are working professionals, which offers a great opportunity for networking with peers from different parts of the country and the world.

Dr. Primo G. Garcia, Director of the UPOU Information Office, discussed “Open and Distance eLearning at UPOU” and hosted the events.

FICS Dean Dr. Melinda Bandalaria and FMDS Dean Dr. Inocencio Buot, Jr. oriented close to 150 participants to the course offerings of their Faculties.

Vice Chancellor for Administration Dr. Melinda Lumanta delivered the welcome message. Prof. Liza C. Carascal, Executive Director of the UPOU Foundation, Inc., cited the Foundation’s commitment to supporting professional development via distance education.  Vice Chancellor Dr. Maria Fe Mendoza gave the closing remarks.

Philippine Consulate General Noel Servigon and Deputy Consul General Rosanna Villamor-Voogel conveyed the welcome messages for the Philippine General Consulate. Mr. Franco Villanueva, President of the UPAA Hong Kong Chapter, also expressed the association’s support for increased UPOU presence in the region.

The occasion was capped by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the UPOU and the Philippine Consulate General designating the latter as the UPOU Testing Center in Hong Kong.
