Non formal Course on Child Rights and Protection to Start in September, Scholarship Grants Available

The UP Open University will offer the first of the four courses which will comprise the Certification on Child Rights and Protection Program this September 2011.  This course titled “Understanding the Convention on the Rights of the Child” will run from September 3 – November 25, 2011 and will be offered fully online.  In this pilot offering, 75 deserving participants will be provided scholarship grant.

 

The course aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) including its history, principles, policies and programs, and other related factors as well as the challenges and critical issues that influence its implementation. Specifically, it aims to enable the participants to:

 

  1. Describe and analyze child rights advocacy and its historical background
  2. Discuss and analyze the objectives and guiding principles of the CRC
  3. Analyze and discuss specific rights under the CRC
  4. Discuss and Analyze the implementing measures under the CRC at international, national and local levels
  5. Analyze and discuss  current policies, program, protocols and regulations as well as the critical issues and challenges in implementing the CRC

 

Those who will successfully complete the course will be given the certificate of course completion and the chance to be provided with another scholarship grant for the succeeding course.

 

The other three courses are: Leading and Managing for Child Rights;  Communicating and  Mobilizing for Child Rights Protection and Promotion; and the Special Project,
which is the integration and application course.

 

The Certification on Child Rights and Protection Program which was developed by UPOU in collaboration with UNICEF, aims to develop advocates of child rights who are able to:

  1. Discuss principles, policies, and critical issues and challenges in promoting child rights
  2. Plan, implement, manage, and evaluate programs for the protection and promotion of child rights
  3. Communicate, organize, and mobilize support for, and advocate change towards the protection and promotion of child rights.
  4. Engage in the various aspects of promoting and working for child rights and protection programs/initiatives.

 

The target participants of the program are:

  • Staff of the partner agencies of UNICEF who are working directly on child rights and protection programs;
  • Staff of government agencies who are involved in programs on child rights and protection
  • NGO workers who want to have a better understanding of child rights and protection
  • Staff of organizations/agencies who have programs related to child rights and protection as part of their CSR; and
  • Other individuals with personal advocacies to promote child rights and protection


Those who will be able to complete the four courses will also be given the Certification on Child Rights and Protection by the UP OpenUniversity.
