UPOU Chancellor Melinda dela Peña. Bandalaria Joins the Launch of OUHK’s IROPINE

 

During the Third International Conference on Open and Flexible Education (ICOFE2016) hosted by the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) on 6-8 July 2016, Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria, Chancellor of University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), joined in the launch of OUHK’s Institute for Research in Open and Innovative Education (IROPINE).


The IROPINE aims to deliver focused excellence in research in the area of academic analytics and big data technique; online, mobile and blended learning; learning design and innovative pedagogy; open education; open educational resources and massive open online courses. IROPINE is established with support from the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China.


As the leader in open and distance e-learning in the Philippines, UPOU teams up with other open universities in Asia and the world to develop innovative instructional strategies and technologies, that can be shared with relevant national agencies, higher education institutions and other technical and vocational institutions in the Philippines.


At the ceremonial launch of IROPINE, Professor Yuk-Shan Wong, President of OUHK, delivered the welcome speech.  Mr. Eddie Ng Hak-kim, SBS, JP, Secretary for Education of Hong Kong SAR was the guest of honor. Professor Danny Wong  Shek-nam, Director of IROPINE and Vice-President (Academic) of the OUHK also delivered a short remarks. The launch also included a presentation of an animated video on open and innovative education created by students of OUHK,  and a video introduction about IROPINE.


Chancellor Bandalaria joined the ceremonial toast in celebration of IROPINE’s launch, along with Prof. Danny Wong Shek-nam, Prof. Wong Yuk-Shan, Mr. Eddie Ng Hak-kim, Dr. Gerald C S Sui, Mr. Du Jun-jun and Mr. Li Kam-cheong.
