Curricular Revisions in DCS and MDC

 

The University Council of the UP Open University has approved of the revised curricula for the Diploma of Computer Science and the Master of Development Communication Programs during the 42nd University Council Meeting held on December 5, 2012.

The following revisions were made:

DCS

Course codes were changed from using letters to numbers (e.g. CMSC A to CMSC 201). CMSC H was also delisted, with its contents incorporated into other courses.

CMSC A (Discrete Struetures in Computer Science) to CMSC 201.

CMSC B. (Principles of Programming) to CMSC 202

CMSC C. (Computer Systems Organization) to CMSC 203.

CMSC D. (Data Structures and Algorithms) to CMSC 204

CMSC E. (Data Communications and Networking to CMC 205.

CMSC F. Database Management Systems to CMSC 206.

CMSC G. Management lnformation Systems to CMSC 209.

CMSC l. lntroduction to Software Engineering to CMSC 208.

 

 MDC

From a non-thesis program, the Master of Development Communication program was changed to a thesis program. This involved the deletion of the Special Problem (DEVC 290) and the institution of Master’s Thesis (DEVC 300).

Modifications in course description (DEVC202) and course titles (DEVC206 and DEVC 207) were the other changes seen in the revised curriculum.

Also, DEVC 242 was changed from an elective to a major course. Another course, DEVC 203 (Cultural and Critical Media Theories and Frameworks in Media and Communication), was also instituted as a core course.

The revisions will take effect on the 2nd Semester 2013-2014.
